Basic budget: manage wants and needs, that's how.
I don't need titles, rare-skinned weapons and such to be good at the game. You need stats and skills, and the basic stuff will do wonders. The basic stuff is cheap and once you have it, you're set. Skins are there to show off - they do not make you a better player, therefore you don't need them.
But hey, I personally like some of the rare skin stuff, and I used to like hunting for titles (before I got bored of solo farming). I had the basic stuff, could afford random stuff faster and faster... why not?
Nowadays I don't spend much cash anymore - got most of what I want, the rest is low-priority... I don't need 100k/month right now. I could deal fairly well with less than that.

I admit, I used to buy gold.
BUT, I did it a long time ago. Like 4 months before GW Factions. When the only way to get money is to Duo underworld. How the heck was I going to know how to Duo when only playing for 4 months. When youtube videos show hundreds of "How to hack GW" crap.
But yeah, I can easily survive with 100k each month. Or... I could enter a guild tourny.
(My guild got 3rd place and I missed it, missed that f--ken 700 points)

I predict on two accounts. Thats usually 100k-150k a month. I dont really NEED the money, but I like buying nice things :3 Nice, shiny things...I might even save for fow, although it'll take awhile...
Anyway, It's too much work to go and buy 66453 accounts. Sure I could ask friends to predict on their accounts, but thats still too much work to register and blah blah /lazy.
And honestly I do know people who "live" on 100k a month, but all they want are leet skins/armor. I dont live on 100k a month unless I'm saving for something outrageously expensive >>

Didn't we have PvP characters since day one? Haven't we been able to equip them with all the thingse we've unlocked in PvE and Balthazar faction? Or was it the "need" to play PvP in FoW armor that was driving those people to buy gold?

Well, I start by making sure I get at least seven to eight hours of sleep out of every twenty to twenty-five hour cycle. Upon awakening, I take several deep breaths to help my body prepare for all the moving around I am about to be doing. Then, I make my way to a room of tile and plaster, shed my protective layer of cotton, and step underneath a small torrent of hot water, to cleanse myself of all outer impurities. After this cleansing, I put on a fresh layer of protective covering, and make my way to a room of tile and pine to prepare a sizable meal consisting of wheats, dairy products, and the eggs of small winged creatures. Sometimes if I'm feeling abnormally famished, I ingest the flesh of rotund scavengers as well!
After all of this I dedicate a period of about four to five hours to menial tasks that I will not go into detail about, then follow that period of time up with another meal to satiate my digestive tract, generally consisting of more wheats and dairy products, with a bit of meat taken from the winged creatures that produced the eggs I ingested during my previous meal. This meal is followed by another four hours of menial tasks, which again is followed by a meal, larger than the second but not quite as large as the first; what this meal consists of is entirely dependent on the contents of a large white storage receptacle that is kept in the room of tile and pine, so unfortunately, I can not go into great detail regarding it.
After the third and final meal of my day, I spend my last few waking ours enjoying myself through various means, often times via electronic recreational times or engaging in physical contact with a member of the opposite sex that I have taken as a partner, of sorts. Soon, the time comes for me to return to my sleeping quarters, and it is then that I rest my weary body, and prepare to begin the entire process anew after seven to eight hours.
And that, dear jiggles, is how I live on this "100k" you speak of a month.

You didn't get multiple armor sets or 4 created weapon slots. Or the lieutenant's helm, or certain weapon mods I believe.

It might be easy, but not as easy as just asking my mummy to buy some gold for me online.

Forget waiting a month for your zkeys. If you aim to make at least 1 zkey per day then thats easily over 100k a month, and thats before you even touch your free rps.

WOW that is Crazy. Only 100K a month? I earned over 100K in Pre-searing alone in the last 4 days with 60K coming on Saturday alone.
Anyone can be filthy rich in post searing but not everyone is filthy rich in Pre Searing

10k and a little bit of patience and its easy to make money in the game. I make my money on minipets myself. Not hard to invest 10k in a 3rd year white (excluding Simian, Minotaur, and Irukandji) and resell it for 25k. From there, take that 25k and do it again! Then keep doing it! Once you have enough, hit the more expensive pets. Takes time and a little effort but over the course of a day or a few days, a person can make several hundred k. When lil Gwenie first came out, I made 1 mil on her alone.

+5 energy mods werent available in pvp for a while. nobody used these until like almost 1 year after gw though. unlocking anything in pve was quite the adventure back in the day. u couldnt choose ur mods, so even getting a sup rune was considered lucky.

lol 100k a month is not the big thing here. Its buying games for z keys to earn gold. 100k a month for 5 minutes of signing up. 5 minutes u earn 100k easy.. thats what i'm saying not that u can't make a 100k a day or whatever doing something else.
100k per account.
so for real $20 or less you can earn 100k gold each month on zkeys as long as zkeys hold their value. Not to mention you can't get banned or in trouble by anet its perfectly legal.
How much is buying gold online these days?...Which can get u in trouble. Compare the two.

All you need to do for the GvG predictions is see which of the top teams (Guild Ladder) are qualified and pick them. 8 picks and you're bound to get some points.
But, that's all for fun, I use the points to buy keys to open the chest.
My characters make money just playing the game. Income is usually 2-10k a day, depending on what I am doing. Bought 20 ectos 4 days ago and have made 2/3s back already.
There is nothing in the game that costs a lot of gold that I want. Have you noticed that every other character is running around with a Tormented Shield, no matter what profession. That makes it more common than a Wooden Buckler.

People buy gold because it's convenient and they don't spend time on a shitty game for the rewards. They just jump straight to the rewards. Which are still shitty.

Its also more attractive than a wooden buckler.
Frankly, my fem sin has elite imperial and asuran like every other sin. My fem monk has FoW armor, chaos gloves, and a blindfold, like everyone else. My fem warrior wears vabbi legs, fow boots (has a full set, but never wears it), 15k glads chest and gloves with rare axe / hammer skins and tormented, magmas, etc. shields that everyone else has because they look good and I have the money to spare.
I used to care about prestige or rarity, when certain items were actually rare. I believe I was one of the first American female warriors to have full FoW, I would constantly be hounded by people in RA and Lion's Arch, and people would stop to take screen shots with me, etc. but nowadays everyone has everything, nothing is prestigious or rare. So... now I just buy what looks good imo.
Of course there are a few things that comes to practicality vs looks, such as using that r8 tactics shield on my monk to get the full 16 armor bonus rather than that r9 tormented shield and get 8 armor, but you get what I mean. So long as utility isn't bothered, its all about looks and how you feel about your character.
Regarding gold... well if you couldn't gather from above, I could never live on 100k a month, maybe a week... maybe, but closer to 100k every other day.

I am floating at 9 accounts right now and only purchased one of them. So with careful predictions I can earn 1 million gold a month for just spending the time to predict. I just keep acquiring them from guild mates that quit and people I clan with in other games that have now quit. I use to be a hardcore farmer and trader but I like to think of this as my social security retirement.

You "buy what looks good" and yet your "fem monk has FoW armor, chaos gloves, and a blindfold".
Oxymoron FTW.
